Oregon Part 4: Bend
Bend was a pleasant surprise. I had heard a lot about Bend and we were both curious about this little city. It was on our way home and we stayed at a Hampton Inn right on the Deschutes River. The first thing we did was grab some food. Then we walked around Old Mill District. Chase got our paddle board out and we paddled the river. I should say Chase paddled the river, I got to chill and enjoy the scenery.
We both really loved the vibe in Bend. It reminded me of Utah in the way that it is a very outdoorsy and active community. There is rock climbing, mountain biking, paddle boarding, and even skiing in the winter. There were a lot of people paddling the river and kayaking. The river was beautiful and calm.
I know I keep saying this but this was also one of my favorite nights on our trip! We didn't get to see a lot of Bend, but what we saw was very clean, inviting and beautiful.
If I had a house on the river here I would paddle board every night! Chase is taking it all and relaxing on the board!
The next day we checked out Smith Rock State park. I wanted to do a small climb and a little more hiking. It was a small park but still pretty. A little underwhelming. I think I was comparing it too much to Zions or other State Parks in Utah.
Chase found us a nice spot where he could help me do a small climb. I am still very fearful of heights but want to get better at climbing. Chase loves to rock climb and I love being outdoors with him. It is great team work and relationship building!
I am not sure how high I climbed, but I know it wasnt super high. For me it was the highest I have ever climbed and I was proud of myself for not chickening out! Chase is always a great support for me, guides me and never pressures me to do something I am not comfortable with.
After our short climb we grabbed some food and headed for Boise. We got there late and basically just slept. The next morning we headed back to Provo to see our little rascals!
The kids always have a blast with Oma. It makes us feel comfortable leaving them knowing they are well taken care of! If it weren't for her we would not be able to take these trips. Im so grateful for what an amazing stepmom and grandma she is to our kids. They got to build memories with her again while Chase and I got to spend much needed one on one time together. It is always nice to come home and be reunited as a whole family again! We sure miss these little pickles when we are away from them.
